One of the main reasons given is that people in the world today lead sedentary lifestyles unlike in earlier days when people were involved in menial jobs and higher levels of activities. In today’s world, many people spend whole days seated either at home or at the workplace.

The result of the static and sedentary lives is thus seen on the effect it has around the waist and overall body size. Having time to be spend on exercises and activities which promote an active metabolism, people can enroll into a gym, walk, play a favorite sport, do some gardening work, jogging among many other activities which will promote healthy living. With an active lifestyle, the food we eat will be utilized to fuel the body with its energy needs and avoid the accumulation of fat due to excessive energy.
Another of the problems has been the changing food choices. Food is readily available but not all food is healthy especially because the world today is fixated on the processed foods. Due to the hectic lifestyles which people lead today, many will opt for the processed and packed foods which they can grab and eat on the move. This also happens even at home where many will carry food which will require little or no preparation and cooking. These foods have been a big problem and a cause of the ever growing waist lines.

A solution to the problem of the fast foods and the processed foods lies in eating the healthy foods. The proteins, the carbohydrates and vegetables are the healthy foods and they are able to sustain healthy body weight. The healthy foods include the white meats, the whole grains, and relatively small amounts of the fats and sugars. Vegetables are part of the healthy foods and have been shown to play a very big role in the maintenance of healthy body weight and the elimination of fat around the waist and the tummy. It is on this last point that the importance of vegetables in eliminating abdominal fat will be explored and discussed.
